128. A healthy diet could add more years than anti-aging drugs

What you eat has a bigger impact on your health than any drug when it comes to fighting the aging process. In a new study published in the journal Cell Metabolism, researchers found that following a diet with appropriate calories and sufficient macronutrients can slow down aging and metabolic disorders more effectively than popular anti-aging drugs such as metformin, rapamycin, and resveratrol. While the study was performed on mice, it lends credence to the idea that we should first focus on our diets to improve our health and live longer than starting with the so-called anti-aging drugs.
Through the stories of a dozen athletes whose injuries and recovery advanced the field (including Joan Benoit, Michael Jordan, Brandi Chastain, and Tommy John), Dr. Geier explains how sports medicine makes sports safer for the pros, amateurs, student-athletes, and weekend warriors alike.
