273. Vast majority of adults say getting older isn’t as bad as they expected
Dr. David Geier is an orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist in Charleston, South Carolina and Charlotte, North Carolina. He helps athletes and active people feel and perform their best, regardless of age, injuries and medical history. He has been featured in major media publications and shows over 2,500 times throughout his career.
Despite there being a widespread perception that aging is bad, 7 in 10 adults say their lives have gotten better with age. In the survey of 2,000 adults over age 25 conducted by OnePoll, three-quarters of respondents say that age is not something to fight or fear. They believe instead that they want to spend less time fighting aging and more time doing things they love. Among the top benefits to getting older, according to the survey, were having more life experience, gaining wisdom, and being more confident.
Through the stories of a dozen athletes whose injuries and recovery advanced the field (including Joan Benoit, Michael Jordan, Brandi Chastain, and Tommy John), Dr. Geier explains how sports medicine makes sports safer for the pros, amateurs, student-athletes, and weekend warriors alike.
