Since it doesn’t involve your foot, affecting your ability to press the gas or brake pedals, or your shoulder, which affects your ability to control the steering wheel, many people don’t consider the challenges of driving after a knee injury or surgery. When is it safe to drive after knee surgery or a serious knee injury?
Some of the factors that determine whether it’s safe to drive a car after suffering a knee injury or undergoing knee surgery include whether you are in a brace (and have to wear it all the time) and how weak your quadriceps muscles are.
In this video, I share my thoughts on how the brace, your muscle strength and the specific nature of your knee injury affect when driving is safe.
