For months, there has been ongoing research into the use of ultraviolet light to kill the coronavirus. In a new study, Israeli researchers found that ultraviolet LEDs can quickly and effectively kill the virus. They found that light wavelengths of 285 nm inactivated 99.9% of the coronavirus in under 30 seconds. And this wavelength appears to kill many other viruses. More research is needed to find ways to deliver this UV light in a way that is safe for humans. One possibility would be UV lights inside of air conditioners to kill the virus floating in the air of our homes and businesses. It’s possible in the coming months we will have UV LED disinfection systems to kill the virus from surfaces, air and even water.
