If you’re looking to lose weight, especially if you’re an overweight male with type-2 diabetes, you might consider exercising in the afternoon. In a study recently published in the journal Physiological Reports, Dutch researchers compared the effects of exercise between 8 and 10 AM and 3 to 6 PM. They found that afternoon exercise led to more pronounced metabolic adaptations, improved exercise capacity, and decreased body fat. I will point out that exercising in the afternoon isn’t for everyone, myself included. The best time of day to exercise, in my opinion, is whatever time you will actually do it consistently.
