Good news for owners of cats and dogs: A new study in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences found that while these animals can test positive for COVID-19, neither dogs nor cats developed clinical disease from the coronavirus the way humans do. The researchers did observe that cats can shed the virus for up to five days, while dogs don’t appear to shed it. Even better, there’s no evidence that cats or dogs play a significant role in infections of humans.
Cats and dogs unlikely to get sick from COVID-19
