While in most of South Carolina schools are open for in-person learning, that’s not the case in much of the country. Last week, the CDC released a study showing that transmission of the coronavirus in schools is low. Researchers studied 17 rural Wisconsin schools over a three-month period. Of the 191 cases of COVID-19, only seven of them – less than 4 percent – were linked to spread within the schools. The COVID-19 incidence among students and school staff members was lower than in the county overall, despite up to a 40 percent positive COVID test rate. The CDC suggests that with masks and other precautions in place, students and teachers are at low risk of catching the virus in school.
