As numerous schools have recently reported COVID-19 cases among their students, questions about whether to close schools and shift to virtual learning are back. A new study suggests that while children can and do get infected and transmit the virus to others, they do both less frequently than adults. Icelandic researchers studied 40,000 people, finding that children under 15 were about half as likely as adults to be infected, and only half as likely as adults to transmit the virus to others. In fact, infected adults pose a greater risk to children than kids do to adults. This study suggests middle and elementary schools might be lower risk, while high schools might be a different story.
