According to a new study in the British Journal of Health Psychology, the pandemic caused many adults to exercise less, drink more, and consume fewer fruits and vegetables compared to before the COVID-19 lockdowns. In particular, women appeared more impacted. Women experienced greater reductions in their diet quality, especially with higher sugar snack intake, and women were more likely to increase their consumption of alcohol. While generally people’s health got worse during the pandemic, the researchers did find that many people improved during the lockdown. COVID-19 might have created winners and losers in terms of healthy behaviors.
