Most Americans are choosing to stay home and avoid air travel during the pandemic. But airports and airlines are trying to decrease the risk. With measures like temperature screening, mandatory masks, and recirculating cabin air through filters to remove almost all droplets containing viruses, the risk of being infected during a flight is relatively low. According to research from MIT, the risk of infection is less than 1 in 4000 if a flight is full. If the middle seat is left open, the risk drops to about 1 in 8000.
