53 adults aged 45-60 years old with no shoulder pain or other symptoms and with no history of surgery or injury to either shoulder underwent MRI of their shoulders. One fellowship-trained musculoskeletal radiologist interpreted the MRIs as consistent with superior labral tears in 55% of patients. Another radiologist identified labral tears in 72% of the cohort. Superior labral tears diagnosed by MRI in individuals between the ages of 45 and 60 years may be normal age-related findings.
