A new study compares different states’ effectiveness in distributing COVID-19 vaccine. As we’ve seen, some states limited eligibility of the vaccine to fewer demographic groups to try to get more doses out quickly, while other states opened up eligibility more quickly. Researchers at Surgo Ventures who collected the data found that many states had logistical problems keeping up with demand when they increased eligibility. South Carolina was ranked 13th in the study, with almost 70 percent of our residents eligible for the vaccine and about 35,000 doses given for every 100,000 residents. The lead researcher argues states need to focus on their vaccine distribution infrastructure, providing more vaccination sites at easy-to-access locations, and simplify the process of making a vaccine appointment.
