Researchers at North Carolina State University have found that green tea and a number of other foods could potentially treat or prevent COVID-19. They found that chemical compounds in green tea, muscadine grapes and dark chocolate can bind to and block the function of a particular enzyme in the virus. The authors of the study state that if these compounds inhibit or deactivate this enzyme, the virus will die. Now we need a study in which scientists have half the people drink green tea and other the half don’t, which could really tell us if green tea and these other foods prevent COVID-19. But if you drink or eat them anyway, the anti-COVID activity might be an added benefit.
