COVID-19 had a dramatic effect on college enrollment this fall. According to a survey by the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center, the coronavirus had little impact on high school graduation rates across the country. But far fewer graduates went to college immediately after high school this fall, declining by 22 percent compared to 2019. And the college enrollment rates dropped the most for graduates of high poverty, low income, and urban high schools.
