110. Social media might harm your physical health

We have discussed links between frequent social media use and worse mental health, but a new study suggests it might be bad for our physical health too. Researchers at the University of Buffalo surveyed over 250 college students about their social media use and physical health. They also took blood samples. They found that the students who spent the most time on social media more frequently reported headaches and back pain. They visited the doctor more often. And their blood showed higher levels of C-reactive protein, or CRP, a biomarker closely associated with inflammation. Over time, high CRP levels have been linked to numerous health risks including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cancer.
