Two new studies show just how bad COVID-19 has been for our waistlines. A study in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that adults gained an average of 1.5 pounds for every month of shelter-in-place lockdowns. But even worse, a survey by the American Psychological Association found over four in ten gained weight during the pandemic, and that group gained an average of 29 pounds. Most shockingly, millennials gained an average of 41 pounds. While I warned about the COVID-19 when the restrictions started last spring, I did not expect this much weight gain. But staying at home, combined with snacking more than normal and exercising much less took its toll.
