A recent study in the American Journal of Gastroenterology suggests the acid-reducing drug famotidine, better known as Pepcid, helps to improve clinical outcomes in coronavirus patients. When used on patients admitted to a Hartford hospital, researchers found famotidine was significantly associated with a reduction in death and intubation. Patients also had lower levels of blood markers for severe disease. While encouraging, more research is needed to truly know if the widely available drug improves outcomes for hospitalized COVID-19 patients.
