Sports medicine stats: Recommendations by TV doctors
Dr. David Geier is an orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist in Charleston, South Carolina and Charlotte, North Carolina. Researchers reviewed the evidence for recommendations made on 80 episodes each of The Dr. Oz Show and The Doctors. They were able to find at lease a case study or better evidence to support 54% of the total 160 recommendations.
Additionally, for The Dr. Oz Show, evidence supported 46%, contradicted 15%, and was not found for 39% of the total recommendations. For The Doctors recommendations, evidence supported 63%, contradicted 14%, and was not found for 24%. Believable or somewhat believable evidence supported 33% of the recommendations on The Dr. Oz Show and 53% on The Doctors.
