We’ve talked about how the coronavirus has completely disrupted the fitness industry. But data collected by the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment suggests that working out in person at local gyms and fitness centers presents an extremely low risk of COVID-19. Researchers compared 32 weeks of Colorado gym attendance data – almost 8.5 million gym check-ins – to the numbers of COVID-19 cases in the state. They found no correlation between COVID-19 case rates and gym attendance. Of the 59 different outbreak locations discovered by Colorado health officials, not one was tied to a gym or fitness center. This data supports findings from New York, where gyms were found to be related to only 0.06% of COVID infections.
