If you’re hitting the slopes this winter, have fun, but do it safely. Here are some tips to avoid injuries while skiing or snowboarding.

Stop for the day when you get tired.

Fatigue can lead to an injury. If your legs are tired or sore, you might not be able to quickly change directions or stop. You could crash and suffer a serious injury. When you start to get tired, maybe call it a day. Get some rest for your day tomorrow skiing or snowboarding.

Check your equipment.

If you rent equipment, the shop owners usually check the skis, boots and helmets. If you own your own equipment, you should check it at the beginning of the season. Make sure it’s in good condition and make any necessary repairs.

Helmets are important for skiing or snowboarding

Stay in the marked boundaries.

Going outside the marked boundaries might seem fun, but it’s dangerous. There are a lot of rocks, trees and other objects that could cause you to crash. Plus, if you get hurt, ski patrol members might have a hard time finding you.

Wear a helmet.

Many resorts require people skiing or snowboarding there to wear helmets. Even if it isn’t mandatory, you should wear a helmet to at least decrease your risk of a concussion. It can also decrease the severity of a head injury should you crash and hit your head.
