Study after study has shown the dangers of sitting too much. Whether it’s poorer overall health or a higher risk of premature death, prolonged sitting is not good for us. A huge percentage of the population does not meet the physical activity guidelines, but what about smaller amounts of activity? Can two minutes of light physical activity, like walking, every hour improve your health?
A recent study looked at replacing 2 minutes of sitting every hour with two minutes of standing. The researchers also looked at performing two minutes of light activity instead of those two minutes of sitting. While simply standing seemed to offer no added health benefits compared to sitting, walking, even casually, did seem to help lower the risk of premature death.
In this video, I discuss this study. I offer suggestions for some light activities you can do every hour to improve your health.
