Young athletes playing for more than one team during the same season is probably more common than many people realize. It actually occurs in soccer, baseball, basketball, swimming and many other sports. We should allow kids to only play for one team each season.
A star soccer forward might play for his recreational league team during the week and compete for an elite travel team on the weekends. A skilled pitcher might pitch for his high school team during the week and an elite travel team on the weekends.
In this video, I discuss how playing on multiple teams in the same season can increase a child’s risk of injury. I also offer alternatives to playing on multiple teams for talented young athletes that might keep them from getting hurt.
